If you have not seen The Full Monty, then I recommend that you turn off your computer and go see it now, WAIT ! where are you going ?......finish surfing my site and sign the guest-book first - it is a very funny movie, well worth the effort to see.

My taste in movies is quite varied, I like almost everything except most science fiction and period movies. I have a very small collection of movies, some on video and some on laser disc and DVD. It is my intention to collect as many Irish films as I can and also films based on the Vietnam war. I recently upgraded my home theatre system from Dolby Pro Logic to Dolby Digital (AC3) by replacing my receiver with a Pioneer Elite VSX-05 unit, I retained my original speakers NHT 1.1's for front NHT 1.1C for centre and NHT Super Zero's for rear. Subwoofer is a Velodyne F1000. As part of the upgrade I also added a Panasonic A110 DVD player. While not exactly a "state of the art" system, it fits my budget and I like the way it sounds.

My two all-time favourite movies are -
(1) The Snapper, an Irish comedy based on the Roddy Doyle book of the same name, and in my opinion the funniest of the Doyle trilogy. Every time that I see this movie I fall off my chair laughing. If you havn't seen it then please do so soon. If you are not familiar with Irish slang words it is recommended that you get an Irish friend to interpret for you, it will be worth the effort.
(2) Platoon, I am sure everyone is familiar with the winner of the Oscar for best picture of 1986. This is the quintessential Vietnam war movie, like the war itself, unforgettable.

My nomination for 1997

Best Movie - The Full Monty
Runner-up - ConAir

Worst Movie - Speed 2
Runner-up - To numerous to list

It is unfortunate that the last several years have not been very good years for movies. Possible exceptions would be Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch and Trainspotting.

I do not watch much network television, all the movies are edited (censored?) for TV, all the situation comedies (with the exception of Mash and Taxi re-runs) are abysmal. If it wasn't for NYPD Blue, Motorsports and Golf, I probably would not watch any network television at all.

PBS (KOCE & KCET) and the cable channels A&E, Bravo, History and the Discovery Channels is where its at....quality documentaries, British drama and comedy series abound. Of course HBO with the excellent series The Sopranos has to be mentioned.
