My first camera was a Kodak box camera, very basic compared
to what I own today. I did not do very much with that first camera
because I was at school and on a limited budget, but it was enough
to whet my appetite. When I left school I bought a used Voightlander,
this was my first exposure (no pun intended) to the world of
shutter speeds and apertures...so I bought a book. The results
were mediocre but pleasing enough to me, at the time. Photography
took a back seat for a while, I can't even remember what became
of that camera. About a year later I was in Japan and I purchased
a Yashica Electro 35 and shortly after a friend gave me a little
Olympus half-frame (a great little camera). I had a lot of fun
with both cameras. I later sold the Yashica to help put a deposit
on a motorcycle. Five years and several motorcycles later, I
sold my motorcycle to enable me to buy my first SLR, a Canon
FTBn. I used this camera for almost 11 years before selling it,
prior to my move to the US.
Again, no camera for about 2 years until I bought a Canon
A1 and shortly afterwards a second A1 and several lenses. I was
now getting more serious about the hobby and I joined the South
Bay Camera Club. I remained in the club for several years until
pressure of work made it to difficult to get to the meetings.
During my time with the club I was a regular participant in the
competitions and was fortunate enough to win a few ribbons. I
also submitted some work to various international salons and
had some images accepted for exhibition. Some of these images
(and others) will appear on my gallery page from time to time.
My stable of equipment expanded to include a brace of Canon T90's
and a brace of Canon EOS 630's. If anyone is interested, I might
be persuaded (for the right price of course) to part with one
of the A1's and 1 of the T90's (they are both like new) to enable
me to buy a digital camera. I also intend sometime in the future
to get a slide scanner to supplement the flatbed that I currently
own. I am looking forward to doing some image manipulation in
the coming months. |
